A Welcome Home From Smooch The Cat

Pets can often be a problem when considering holiday plans. Our cat Smooch is no exception.

I’m sitting here at my computer after a twelve day absence. My husband and I have just returned from holiday and all the experiences of the last twelve days have been put into perspective by the welcome home reception we’ve had from Smooch, our ginger cat.

Pic of Smooch sitting on Dad’s knee, shortly after we arrived home.

We’ve never left Smooch for twelve days before, so were rather anxious about how he would handle our absence. We’re very fortunate here where we live. We are able to employ the services of a wonderful cat minding service, enabling cats to stay in the comfort of their own home. Consequently, we alarmed the house, but left the attached garage unarmed, so that Smooch could live in familiar surroundings while we were away.

Every day a wonderful woman came and fed Smooch, and talked to our invisible cat. You see, when we desert him, Smooch goes into hiding, not allowing himself to be seen by anybody. The cat lady obligingly walked around the house talking to him, even though she couldn’t see him.  She sent an e-mail to us saying she’d seen him the first two visits, but after that he’d lived up to his elusive reputation. Others close to Smooch also came to visit him, but that cat would have nothing of it. He refused to make an appearance after the first two days.

Less than an hour after returning home, and lots of calling outside, we heard a meow at the door. There he was, ready to be made a fuss of. Since then he hasn’t stopped purring, dribbling  and smooching in only the way Smooch can.

It has been a long holiday and we’ve come home tired. As I write Smooch and my husband are asleep in front of TV. We were delighted to find Smooch had survived his twelve days alone without us. Having him fed in his own home, able to enjoy his familiar surroundings, must have made life less stressful for Smooch the cat during our absence.

The image of our cat Smooch above shows he is happy his Mum and Dad are home again.

Pet owners have the responsibility of making sure their pets are well cared for in their absence. The home pet care service we have here where we live is of the highest quality, enabling us to go on holiday knowing our cat Smooch is well cared for.

so adorable cat, he sure missed you both a lot.
Home Sweet Home! Can understand how tiring both of you must be, have a good rest. After charging your body batteries, you can continue with your wonderful writing journey again. :)

Keep in contact! Send my regards to your hubby also, take care.

Smooch must have been very happy when you came home. Animals feel like humans.

Excellent articulation of kit-love. Yes, there is kitten love just as puppy love :)

Love the pictures of your cat. The longest we have ever left our dogs, Kole and Katie is 10 days. We are lucky as our adult children take turns spending the night and taking care of them for us. I like that they get to stay in their home and not a kennel. When we get home they are so excited. They will not leave our sides for several days and they are so happy to see the suitcases go back up in the attic. We have a short trip planned for Oct and a seven day anniversary trip in Jan 2012.
