We just giving a cat that has the worst smelling breath I have ever smelled.   I am 52 years old and have worked on farms with farm cat.   I have lived in town with house cats and outside cats-those cats didn’t have bad smelling breath.

          These cats have come from farms and friends when out old ones pass away.  We even had one that rode in the back part of the wheel or some where in the back parts-am not sure of where exactly the cat rode.  It rode from the farm which is about 5 miles outside of town to our house.   When we finally found him he was a mixture of dirty and oil.    Needless to say we had to give it a bath and the next day the cat went out to the vets.   The vets said it was fine needless to say about the shock it probably had from the ride.   All we can say is that when we were visiting our uncles farm the little kitten crawled up in the back of the car and went to sleep.

          What I am trying to say is that we have had our share of kittens and cats.  None has this kind of breath until this cat.   She is nice  cat who likes to cuddle ,but once that breath hits you.   You want to gag because it smells like rotting eggs.

          My friend told me to brush her teeth, scrap off the tartar, and give her a little mouth wash mixed with water.  I guess that’s what her grandmother used to do with one of her cats weekly.  Thinking that someones grandmother did it-what could it hurt.     Wrong!

         My son held the cat and I was just going to try alittle water on the toothbrush-no toothpaste or mouth wash until I talked to our vets.   Well, believe me when I say the fight was on.   My son held on to the cat while I tried to brush the teeth.      Needless, to say my son got scratched more than once and the cat tried to bite me.    We got her teeth brushed and for a couple of hours she wouldn’t come near us.   I can’t say I blame her in the least.

          The next day we had to do the same thing all over ,so I know just water doesn’t work to good and taking the cat to the vet will cost me about $200. for exam, test, and the actual brushing teeth.    The vet puts the cat out and scrapes her teeth.   Then cleans and brushes her teeth.    

          I don’t know if I should go to all that expense or just let the cat have her bad breath.    In a couple of months I will have to go through the whole thing again.    $200.00  for a couple of months is it worth it?   If you have any ideas let me know.   I’ll  run them past my vets before actually doing them to the poor cat.
