Overweight cats experience obesity the same way humans do. They are uncomfortable, have difficulty breathing, and find it hard to be active. If you reduce the amount of food your cat normally eats, he will decide to fend for himself. Scavenging for food can be bad for his health, especially if he gets into the wrong thing, such as rotting food from garbage cans. The best way to help manage kitty’s weight is to give him a reducing diet that is low in calories without sacrificing nutrition.
Below is a recipe that is low in carbohydrates and fats. It provides a good supply of vitamins, minerals, and protein and is suitable for cats that have, or have a history of, UTI (urinary tract infections).
Ingredients
- 1 ½ lb. cooked pork liver
- 1 C. cooked and mashed potatoes (no milk)
- 1 tsp. calcium carbonate
- 1tsp. cooking oil
- ½ tsp. minced garlic
Method
- Grind cooked liver into a paste
- Combine all ingredients and mix well.
- Refrigerate in an airtight container.
- To make dinner more appealing, warm the food before serving.
*Cooked Rice can be used in place of mashed potatoes for variety.

Thank you Daniel and Icy for your comments. I have met people with overweight cats and dogs who are proud of the fact that their pet is different…is unusual in appearance because they are overweight. They are unaware that obesity in animals affects them in the same way as people and shortens their lives.

Wow!! That sounds almost good enough to eat. I wonder if your fat grand-dog would eat this. Good idea making your own.

The recipe looks good enough for anyone to eat…except for the liver. You must have a few cats. If I were a cat, I wouldn’t eat that store bought canned stuff. We don’t have a cat, but if we ever decide to get one we will certainly keep your recipe in mind. Thank you Darlene.

I think that this is a sound article with good advice. I haven’t got cats, but I can see that it’s very useful for people who do.
