Five Cool Reasons Why Dogs are Better Pets Than Cats

The debate is endless. I personally think that dogs are better pets than cats, plus I have my evidence and testimony!

For many years the debate has reigned over who is the better pet, a dog or a cat, or both maybe? Most people seem to have an idea over which one they like and stick to that throughout their lives. Others change their mind, while some people simply do not mind and keep both. I have both, and enjoy the difference both canine’s and felines bring to my life. However, I much prefer the closeness and the fact that a dog relies on you, which is why I think dogs are better pets. I’m going to give you five cool reasons why dogs are better pets than cats, although you are of course free to disagree.

1. Dogs Are Deluded

I do not mean that in a horrible, crazy kind of way – I mean it in a loving, loyal way. Dogs think you are the best thing since sliced bread was found, and no matter what you do, they will always think you are amazing. Cats on the other hand, think you are slightly okay when you feed them but do not want to be around you the rest of the time, except of course for cuddles.

2. Dogs Are Great Personal Trainers

Without a dog many people simply would not exercise. Because puppies need lots of exercise, as an owner you get into the habit of going on long walks which is actually very good for you, as well as the dog. As a dog gets older, and because they are intelligent creatures they get into a routine meaning they know when they should be going out, which means your exercise time too.

Unless I have missed a trick somewhere along the way, I’m pretty sure a cat wouldn’t offer the same complimentary service. Please advise me if you do indeed need to exercise your cat.

3. You Can Practice Your Communication Skills And Test Your Patience

I have to treat my dog like a toddler, I am not sure if anyone else does this? I do this because he responds to it. If I give him a biscuit for not chasing the cat across the park then he will not do that, whereas if I won’t give him a biscuit the next time he will do it just because he can. When he runs off and will not come back sometimes, I make him sit and tell him that he is a naughty boy and that he should not do that, just like you would with a child. I believe this comes in handy for when you have children.

If you berated a cat like that you would probably get a scratch or two!

4. Your Very Own Security Guard

One of the best reasons why a dog is a better pet than a cat is for security reasons. Dogs are extremely loyal, they get to know who is their owner and who visits regularly. Anyone else they see as intruders and enter attack mode. Just owning a dog puts off intruders, and burglars as they would rather not go through the hassle of being bitten by a dog and probably being caught or contracting tetanus!

Cats are only loyal because they know who feeds them. They are protective but only towards other animals, for example if another cat comes into my garden, my three cats will run out and chase it away, yet they do not do the same to the postman.

5. Dogs Will Try And Understand You

Picture this: someone who is Japanese trying to tell you that they are extremely upset and they feel really sad. Even though you cannot understand a word they are saying, you manage to get the gist of the conversation by their expressions, body language and maybe a few tears. Dogs are the same, they try and understand you and most of the time they will know how you are feeling. When you talk to them, they will make expressions and tilt their head, so at least they try!

I hope the five cool reasons dogs are better pets than cats have made you laugh. I think the video is also a great reason why everyone should own a dog, if they can afford it and look after it.
