Once, there lived a family of poor cats. The father poor cat had no money to buy quality foods for his family. But, because he loved his family, he would think of any way he could to get good food for his family.

One day, while eating at the table with his son and wife, his son asked him, “Dad, this veggie is tasty? Where did you get it?”

His dad was honest and replied, “I stole it from next door. They moved from here a few days ago.” Looking at him, his son said nothing as he would never want to point out his dad’s fault openly.

As expected, the father poor cat woke up from the bed in the middle of night. He looked around and made sure no one was following him. He walked quietly and went out. Without his knowledge, his son followed behind.

The father poor cat walked into a rich cat’s farm. The moon was shining brightly that night. Using the same tactic to steal the veggies that he had employed a few days ago, he was thinking of stealing more veggies. While pulling the veggie out of the soil, he suddenly felt a small tug pulling his lower left corner shirt. The person was his son who jumped out from hiding behind him.

The father poor cat’s face was pale and showed no expression. His son was a wise boy and he would never want to make his dad feel embarrassed. He grinned at him showing a cute face and said, “Dad, you see, the moon is smiling at you! He tells you how you could not gain a good life without donating…”

“How could we donate? We are poor and have not much money to donate,” the father poor cat replied.

His son explained, “Dad, there are many types of donations. They are not necessary in a monetary form. We are poor but we can give our service. See, this farm is big and perhaps you can give your service by pulling out weeds, watering the vegetables, eliminating pests and applying fertilizer to these veggies. Think that, when these veggies grow healthy, people who eat these veggies will become healthy and nutritious. This is a type of donation which is in a non-monetary form, dad. But dad, let me remind you, while doing this deed, do not expect anything in return but you should always wish that people will be blessed from your effort.”

Under the shining of the moon light, the rich cat was actually hiding behind them. He wanted to know who the thief was. He listened to every word the father poor cat’s son said attentively. He was touched and impressed by the wisdom of a small cat. And he later decided not to accuse the father poor cat in a court of law.
The father poor cat and his son then walked back home without bringing any veggies. Watching as their shadows became small and disappeared from the farm, the rich cat felt he had made a good decision.

The following day, the rich cat, he himself visited the poor cat family. He introduced himself and said to the father poor cat, “My farm is so big now, and I really need someone to help me manage it. Why not you come and work in my farm? I’ll give you money every month. Besides that, you can bring back some veggies home everyday so that your family has tasty veggies to eat each day.”

This came as a surprise for the father poor cat and he accepted the rich cat’s offer with much gratitude. The father poor cat worked dedicatedly in his farm; and the veggies grew healthily day by day. Many people who ate the veggies became healthy and some even recovered from their illnesses.
The father cat no longer lived a poor life as he was able to bring happiness to his family. Due to his son’s wisdom and his hardworking, his life changed! The father poor cat realized that when he gave service for the benefits of others, he was actually the person who gained the most benefits.

An inspiring tail…. I mean tale. Applicable for the humans too. You are a good story teller, Chan. I guess we can always offer help for the others. And the first step is not to think poorly of ourselves
