Yesterday (Monday) the animal shelter in New – Mexico United States announced that the fattest cat in the world is no longer alive. Meow the cat, which weighs 18 kilo (~40 pounds), died of complications caused by excess weight.
Meow, orange – white cat, aged two to five years. Last month he was taken to the veterinary hospital after his owner, aged 87, could not handle it anymore. Therapists have posted on social networks the healthy diet progress which has been placed for it.

During this month Meow progressed its treatment and shed almost one kilo (2 pounds). However, last Wednesday, it began to suffer from respiratory problems. It passed a series of tests, including X-rays and ultrasound to the heart. Also, the vets gave it oxygen.
Despite all efforts, last Saturday it died. “It was a shock to everyone. We fell in love with him,” said Director of the Veterinary Center where Meow was treated. She said that people from all over the United States contacted the shelter after the famous story of a cat, and told them that its condition spurred them to worry about proper nutrition for their pets.
It is unclear how Meow reach this unusual weight, and assessments are simply a combination of high-calorie diet and physical inactivity. Weight of an adult cat usually ranges between three to five kilo (6.5-11 pounds). Meow weight equivalent of a person weighing 272 kilo (600 pounds). However, Meow was not the fattest cat record on history. The fattest cat in recorded history was “sea” from Australia, who weighed 21.3 kilo (47 pounds).
