12 Foods That Dogs Should Never Eat

Who can resist those cute doggie eyes and grin? Well, your little reward might hurt your dog. It depends on what it is, and what it’s made of. There are some treats you should never give a dog, no matter how cutely he asks.

  1. Avocado

Sounds unbelievable, right? But yes there are people who feed their dogs avocado. It contains a substance called persin and it is harmless for humans but highly toxic for most animals. If you feed it to your dog, it might start vomiting and have diarrhea.

  2. Alcohol

Those who give alcohol to their pets, shouldn’t have pets at all. But for those who pride on giving alcohol to their dog must know that it damages your dogs’ liver and brain. Just a little can cause vomiting, diarrhea, central nervous system depression, problems with coordination, coma and even death.

  3. Onions

Whether it is powdered, cooked or raw, onions can destroy a dog’s red blood cells. This will eventually lead to anemia. If you give onions to your dog only on special occasions, it is probably ok. But it is better to avoid at all costs.

  4. Tea and Coffee

Dogs love these, especially tea but please know that both can be fatal for a dog. Your dog can be poisoned by caffeine and symptoms include restlessness, rapid breathing, muscle tremors, bleeding and fits.

  5. Grapes and Raisins

We often used grapes and raisins as treats for dogs, but it is not a good idea. Scientists are not exactly sure why, but grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs. Signs include repeated vomiting and hyperactivity.

  6. Milk and Ice Cream

Let’s face it. Dogs love milk and ice-cream and it is difficult to resist and say no to them especially on a hot summer day. Milk can cause various digestive problems and itchiness.

  7. Gum and Candy

Most gum and candy are sweetened with Xylitol. This can cause a rapid increase in the insulin that is going around your dog’s body. The dog’s blood sugar can drop suddenly and leads to liver failure.

  8. Chocolate

Everyone knows that chocolate is bad for dogs. This is because chocolate has an agent called theobromine in it. The most dangerous types of chocolates are unsweetened baking chocolate and the dark chocolate. Eating this can cause a dog to have diarrhea, be excessively thirsty and vomit.

  9. Fat Trimming and Bones

Start saying no to those doggie bags. Fat can cause pancreatitis in dogs. And your dog can choke easily on a bone. Bones can also splinter and cause an obstruction in your dog’s digestive system.

  10. Fruits with Seeds

Any type of fruit with seeds is bad for dogs. It is ok if you remove the pit or seeds from these types of fruits but if not; your dog can end up with an inflammation of the small intestine. Intestinal obstruction is also very common.

  11. Raw Eggs

The reason behind this is the same as to humans. Your dog can get food poisoned. Salmonella or E. coli are the most common two. Eggs are also known to cause skin problems in dogs.

  12. Salt
