Man’s best friend, the loyal canine, has been kept near and dear for centuries. Dogs are an important part of our lives because of the loyalty and protection they offer us. With that being said, some breeds of dogs are better suited as guard dogs than others. Some dogs are simply too friendly to protect you, but not these dogs. They are very protective of their people and their property.
German Shepherd
German Shepherds are very brave and loyal canines. They will fearlessly protect their families and homes, acting defensively when necessary. These dogs are excellent companions, very loyal, and quite intelligent and easy to train. Many of these traits are also the reason that German Shepherds are often used as police dogs.

The Great Pyrenees is such a surprise. I have a pit bull mix & a German shepherd mix. The pit bull mix is definitely more aggressive as a guard dog.

Thanks for reading and commenting, everyone! I must say that this list is not all-inclusive. There are too many great dogs to list! Currently I have a yellow lab and two German Shepherd X lab mixes. They are very good guard dogs, especially my lab. I think many breeds have the potential to be good watchdogs, but some dogs were actually bred to have this trait.

I go for Rottweiler, they are very powerful and intelligent dog. The most trait I want on rot is they pretty good even on children as long as it is trained.

I agree, the Rottweiler is an excellent dog. We are hoping to get one some day because they are such good dogs. My aunt used to have a Rott and a Doberman when I was growing up, they were not violent or vicious like some people say. They were well-trained, obedient dogs.
