Five Rainy Day Activities for Dogs

Is the weather keeping you from taking your daily walk with your dog? When the weather’s bad, you can keep your dog entertained indoors.

Does your special canine friend deserve some one-on-one time with you? If you have a few hours to spend with your dog but it’s raining outside, it’s time to take the fun indoors and find some creative ways to keep your best friend entertained. Here are some ideas for indoor activities to keep you and your dog entertained together:

  1. Give Your Dog the Spa Treatment

    Bring out the grooming supplies and make it a spa day for your dog. Start with a soothing dog massage. For complete instructions on how to do this you can refer to this article. Once your dog is relaxed, it’s time for a gentle fragrant bath shampoo. Be sure to use a gentle, all natural dog shampoo and don’t let any get in your best friend’s eyes. Dry your dog thoroughly and brush him gently to remove the tangles. Most dogs will enjoy the tactile stimulation. Speak soothingly to your dog or play soft music during the treatment. Not only will your dog be more relaxed, you’ll have a squeaky queen canine!

  2. Watch a Doggy Movie

    Rent a movie that has lots of canine activity and snuggle on the couch with your dog. Have a tray of snacks handy for you and healthy dog cookies for your dog. If you can’t find a movie to enjoy, try to find some old Lassie reruns to watch together.

  3. Take a Trip to the Pet Store

    If you have a large indoor pet store in your area like Petsmart, dogs are generally welcome to browse with their owners. Why not spend an afternoon cruising up and down the spacious aisles of your pet friendly pet store? Your dog will enjoy sniffing at the large selection of bones and treats while you can get some shopping done. Changes are you’ll see a variety of interesting dogs of all types. Buy a few special treats for your dog that you can give him when you return home.

  4. Play an Indoor Game of Fetch

    As long your dog doesn’t weight a hundred pounds and you don’t live in a one room apartment, chances are you can play a lively game of indoor fetch. Pick your dog’s favorite bone or ball and toss it while you relax or watch T.V. Your dog will release some excess energy and you’ll have a chance to watch an interesting show.

  5. Make Dog Cookies

    Find a recipe for healthy dog cookies on the internet and prepare them in the kitchen with your dog by your side. A rainy day is a perfect time to make a batch of healthy treats that will last the whole week. As soon as they oven door opens, let you best friend have a sample.

Even if it’s raining outside and there’s no opportunity for an outdoor walk, you can still spend quality time with your dog indoors. Why not make the next rainy day a special one for you and your canine?

    I was really looking for something for me and my bff to do on a rainy day but- she has a dog so when I saw this, I clicked on it!! I think I might suggest making dog cookies or something! (I’m going to be hanging out with her for 4 hours today!)Thanks for the great ideas!!
