Healthy Dog Dinners and Treats

Read the ingredients on your canned dog food and you will see it really isn’t the healthiest food for your pet. There is an alternative? It’s a little work and will take a bit of time, but you can make your own healthy dog food. It isn’t hard and you can bet your dog will appreciate it. Once you serve your pet this healthy homemade food, he will never go back to canned.

Have you looked on your dogs food to see all the junk that’s included? Think diseased animals, ground up and you are on the right track. You can make your own healthy dog food and it doesn’t even stink up your kitchen the way canned does. Your dog will love this.

This recipe will make about 2 1/2 pounds.

Ingredients

32 ounces any lean ground meat

2 cups cauliflower cut in small pieces, peas, and carrots. A frozen mix works well.

1/2 cup old fashioned oat meal

1/2 teaspoon cod liver oil

Method

1. Put ground meat in large cooking pot with 1 tablespoon water and cook on medium until meat is brown.

2. Add veggies to pot. Cover and cook 20 minutes. Remove from heat.

3. Stir in oatmeal and oil. (if you prefer you can use cooked brown rice.)

4. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator for larger dogs. If you have a smaller dog, store individual servings in plastic bags and freeze. When ready to use empty bags in glass bowl and heat in microwave. You can wash and reuse plastic bags.

These recipes seem like a good alternative to dog food. My dog eats dry food, but sometimes I notice he gets bored of eating the same thing. We don’t feed him canned food though. Change is sometimes good.
