How to Train Dogs

Take control and learn how to train your dog.

Believe it or not, it is easy to learn how to train dogs.  Really, there are no tricks.  The basics to training dogs are just repetition, reinforcement, encouragement, and, of course, lots of treats.  That is all there is to it.  If you can remain patient, and can follow a few simple steps and ideas, you will learn how to train a dog in no time.

To learn how to train dogs you will need:

  ·        Patience

  ·        Treats

  ·        Dog

1.      When you begin training your dog, the first step is to identify want commands or behaviors you want them to learn.  Choose one that has the most immediate importance and stick to it.  The key is to try not to change too many of your dog’s habits at one time.  This only serves to confuse the dog.

 2.      Get to know your dog and its body language.  Just like a person, your dog has moods; and just like a person, these moods can affect her ability to learn.  The good news is that you can actually interpret these moods.  Dogs give signs; the way they tilts their heads, wag their tails, and bark are all tell tale signs about your dog’s moods.  To properly learn how                             to train dogs, learn these signs.

3.      Reinforce the behavior continually.  Every time your dog obeys a command, even if it is not completely correct, it needs to be rewarded.  This is done by making eye contact, praising the dog, and giving it a treat.  Take note that, in the beginning, your dog may not actually follow the commands.  He might just make an effort do something.  This should still be rewarded, as well.  Then as the dog progresses continue to reward until he does it completely correctly.

4.      Do not reward bad or wrong behavior.  As your dog progresses, she might have a tendency to revert back to an earlier behavior.  Do not reward this behavior.  Instead, scold it with a harsh tone in your voice and an angry look in your eyes.  Rewarding bad behavior will only delay your dogs improvement.

5.      As you train dogs, you will eventually reach a time when the dog does not need to be rewarded with a food treat.  It is still a good idea to give her one occasionally.  Also, always reward your dog with high praise and a positive look into the eyes.  This will increase the likelihood of your dog’s continuing success.
