How to Train My Dog

Guide and advice to train your dog.

. If you really want to train your dog to be fit and healthy, make a schedule for walks, or trips to the park to play, etc. Get used to doing these things on a regular basis and your dog’s strength and even yours will improve after time. Also, make it fun for you. If you prefer throwing Frisbee rather than taking a walk, throw Frisbee more often. If you do this you will see that you are doing things with your dog more often, and these activities you are doing are things you like.

How to train your dog to do anything: To learn things dogs need to be reminded of these things a lot. Dogs have short term memory, so the best way to remind them about something and keep them doing it is to always reward them with praise or small treats for the smallest things they may do. If you throw a toy to him and he misses it, praise him. Some people think if dogs do something once and get rewarded for it they will do that same thing over and over again. This is true in some ways and false in others. It is true because your dog will attempt to catch the ball again. It is false because the dog will not intentionally drop it and expect to get praise. Think about it. It is probably not even fun for the dog because they are not actually playing anymore.

If you want to take training your dog up to a higher level because you enjoy training him/her, you might want to consider taking longer walks and throwing Frisbee for longer periods of time. This will slowly increase the dogs endurance, and he will be able to perform better, longer. Just a reminder, if you try to get your dog trained in the first week or so and you do not see significant improvement DO NOT GIVE UP!  The process of training your dog takes time, and you will have to be patient if you want to see results from you and the dog’s hard work. Also do not forget to keep up the training and not just stop for breaks for whole weeks or so, unless you are sick or something. Dog training is a long, hard, and fun process but in the end, this process is is very rewarding.
