In early August a man went hiking in Colorado with a young companion and his German shepherd dog named Missy. They were hiking on Mount Bierstadt. They ran into an unexpected snow storm and he says he was worried about the safety of his young companion so they hiked back down the mountain to safety leaving his dog behind because she was too badly injured to walk back down the mountain. This does not make sense because he says he left his dog because he was worried about his young companion but that the dog was too injured to walk down the mountain so reality is he would probably leave the dog anyway.
The dogs feed had been badly cut on the sharp rocks and she was in so much pain she would no longer walk. Her owner said she was too heavy and he could not carry her out so she was left behind. What kind of a person takes a dog on a hike in an area with sharp rocks that will cut its paws to the point it can no longer walk and then abandons the dog.
The owner of the dog did not try to get help for the dog and after a few days he figured the dog was dead. He has now found out the dog is alive and he wants her back. He may own the dog but he abandoned her and left her to die. She was on the mountain for a week, injured, cold, no food or water and alone. He left her to die all alone.
A week after Missy was abandoned by her owner she was found by a man and woman that were hiking up Mount Bierstadt. They were hiking and got off the trail. The woman found the brave injured dog in the rocks. The dog was crying and badly injured. They tried to get the dog down the mountain but she was too weak and hurt to make it on her own. She was too heavy for them to carry down the mountain.
The couple tried to make the dog comfortable and then they came back down the mountain and they got some volunteers and headed back up the mountain to try and rescue the abandoned dog.
They found the dog and she had bled badly from her injured paws and elbows but she was still alive.
The rescue volunteers went through a severe snowstorm to get to the dog they did not even know. Her owner made no effort to rescue her but total strangers went out of their way to get the job done.
One of the rescue hikers had a very large backpack that they put the injured dog in and brought her down the mountain.
When the hikers got the dog down the mountain they took her to a veterinarian. The veterinarian says the dog will recover with no long term problems.
Here owner wants Missy back but he left her and id not make any effort to get help and go back and rescue here. She stayed on that mountain injured and hungry for a week before someone found here. They were total strangers but they did get volunteers together and went back to get her.
Her owner does not deserve to get her back. He could have done the same thing and rescued her instead of leaving her to suffer and die a slow death. Missy needs a home with someone who will love and protect her. She does not need someone that will leave her to die on a mountain.
