These lovable creatures make life better; it’s no wonder scientists say dogs make us live longer.

The Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog worldwide. This dog has a reputation for enjoying such interests as hunting, swimming and the love of children. In addition, these dogs are able to trained to help assist those with disabilities. Their intelligent personality makes them great candidates for guide dogs and a policeman’s best friend in a tough crime case. This dog most likely comes from ancestors who were English, Irish or Portuguese breeds. Their roots can be traced back to Canada with St. John’s Water Dog Breed, which comes from Newfoundland. It was 1870 when the breed was renamed Labrador retriever, due to the fact they posed a strong build and was useful in so many areas. When the breed was first recognized, the breeders named the colors chocolate and butterscotch for these beautiful dogs.

The Golden Retriever is another popular dog around the world. Similar to Labrador Retriever, these dogs are used for their intelligent minds. They’re popular as assist-dogs to those who are blind, deaf or elderly. They’re in high demand as police dogs because their keen sense of smell allows them to find drugs and people. Golden retrievers have Scottish roots and were originally bred for hunting purposes. They are strong animals and love to swim. Their friendly and playful demeanor make these dogs the ideal best friend for children. They’ll play catch for hours and probably just start to get warmed up. These dogs are also descendants of the St. John’s Water Dog Breed which was still a breed in the 1800s.

The Beagle is one of the smaller dogs included in this list. It’s also an intelligent dog and used for purposes of hunting. Their keen sense of smells make it easy for them to find anything. However, this is not a guard dog and will be shy around strangers. the beagle’s personality seems to be even-tempered and they enjoy company. These make great family pets, but they go through separation anxiety when they are left alone for too long. The Department of Agriculture uses beagles when they want to detect food inside luggage. This breed was chosen for their keen sense of smell and their small size.

Originally bred to hunt foxes, the Border Terrier is an intelligent dog and eager to please their owners. This breed was bred from Scottish Terriers. Their personality instills within them a love of people and an even temperament. This makes the dogs great companions for children, the blind and deaf, and the elderly. If their owners are going to use them for this purpose, these dogs should be trained from a young age to recognize commands. These dogs handle change well and will befriend cats they have grown up with through the years. However, they have a tendency to chance animals they don’t recognize or want near them; they may also just lie in the shade and take in their environment while they relax.

The English Springer Spaniel was originally bred to help their owners fish, but as recent as the 20th century they have become show and work dogs. This dog is an easy-going and easy-to-train dog for the entire family. They’re willing to learn new commands in reward for a treat. English Springer Spaniels, similar to all of the dogs in the list, require a decent amount of exercise in order to live a long and healthy life. If these dogs are left alone for too long, they will become bored and become destructive to get their master’s attention. These dogs have been used to help investigators and security officers sniff out explosives in airports and other public areas. They’re a bread that has one of the stronger senses which makes them valuable for what they can do.

The Newfoundland dog was first bred to assist fishermen in Newfoundland, Canada. This dog posses a gentle personality and is loyal to its owners. Their muscular build, webbed feet and swimming abilities make these dogs excellent work dogs. The dog moves its paws with a down-and-out stroke through the water which makes them swim faster than the average dog. While this dog may be a gentle giant, they make a superb watchdog. They are gentle with humans and animals alike, and will often look out for both. Similar to the Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever, the Newfoundland Dog is an ancestor of the St. John’s Water Dog breed.

The Papoo dog is a mix between a poodle and a papillon. This is a fairly new breed that was bred together to find a solution to shedding. These dogs have a friendly personality and fit well into families with children. This breed is playful and active with their owners, often having a curly tail that never stops waving in the air. They’re an easy to please dog that listens well to commands. They’re also ideal for people with allergies, due to the fact they shed their hair rarely, if only once in awhile. This active indoor dog is loyal to their owners, but will be destructive if left alone for too long. Similar to all other dogs, the Papoo may develop separation anxiety when the owners leave the home.

The Welsh Spring spaniel has to be the most adorable dog so far in this article. These dogs are easy-going, willing to please their master and loyal. These dogs would be companions for for children, the blind and deaf, and elderly. These dogs have less energy than their ancestor, the English Springer Spaniel. They are intelligent animals, however, and listen well to commands. The Welsh Springer Spaniel also listens to the tone of their master’s voice. If the tone is different than their master’s, they may not obey the command. This dog has a natural hunting instinct which must be trained while they are young, otherwise it may be different to correct as they become older.

Irish setters are known for their auburn, silky coat. This is an active breed who loves exercise and taking long walks. If these dogs don’t get enough exercise, they may be hard to manage. This is due to the fact that they won’t learn to listen to and obey commands the mater gives to them. These dogs have a gentle personality for children and other animals. In fact, their affection for their owners may make this one of the best breeds to own. These dogs are sociable animals with their human counterparts and are destructive when left alone. Positive training with this dog will help them respect their master and learn to obey commands. It’s better for this dog to be housebroke as a puppy; if this does not happy, their independent spirit will be too much to control.

The basset hound is a hunting dog by instinct. This breed of dog is bred to hunt rabbits and other small animals. However, it still posses a warm and loyal personality for its owners. This dog is gentle with children; it loves to exercise and can track animals with its strong sense of smell. If they don’t get the proper exercise, they may become lazy. If a treat is not given upon a command being carried out, they may easily forget the command.

Excuse me, but Spaniels tend to be uncontrollable aggressive towards humans and I do not want to have my kid around them… same goes for Golden Retrievers since they had become popular… What are your sources?

My sources are the two spaniels I had growing up. Neither was violent or harmful towards humans. How a dog is raised has impact on how it turns out as an adult dog. Our dogs we had when I was a kid were not aggressive. They were some of the best dogs we had.

I’d just like to add that there are many Pit Bull Terriers that are great kid dogs. In fact, they used to be called “Nanny Dogs” in Europe for their gentleness towards children!

I would like to add to your list pomeranians – they are really great for kids. I own a number of pomeranians and some of them even do not try to escape from my kids when their games come too far.
