Have you ever wanted a goldfish as a pet, but didn’t know what kind of fish tank to get it? Well you don’t have to worry anymore.

Goldfish grows up to about one foot long. To achieve this size it should take about twelve years, growing about one inch per year. Now that you know its size you probably are wondering how big the fish tank should be.

Your fish tank should probably be about twenty gallons, with an additional ten gallons for each fish. If you can’t find that big of a fish tank, you shouldn’t have to worry as the goldfish growth will be determined by its fish tank. I have heard that even though it won’t grow, the internal organs would grow still, thus causing the fish to explode. I am not sure if this is true or not, but you can decide.

    The goldfish doesn\’t explode.

However, keeping a goldfish in a small tank will directly contribute to its premature death. The fish continues to grow, albeit very slowly, until it produces more ammonia than the aquarium can handle and the high levels burn the gills, causing a slow, painful, suffocating death.
