Tokay Gecko trading was now prevalent in South East Asia particularly in the Philippines. Nowadays, Tokay Geckos were being bought for a cost of Php 50 000 to Php 10 000 000 depending on its weight.
This Tokay Gecko or (TUKO) is a nocturnal arboreal gecko whose native habitat is the rain-forest trees and cliffs. It is commonly found in northeast India and Bangladesh, throughout Southeast Asia particularly in the Philippines.
According to some buyers in South Cotabato Provinces, Tokay Gecko is very lucrative because its tongue can be used as a medicine of AIDS, the meat is also an aphrodisiac while its blood and bile suppresses tumor.
The prevalence of Gecko trading makes the people more aggressive in hunting this reptile. Many people who sell this gecko even in public because according to them, this reptile is not endanger species, and no one will catch them in hunting this reptile even the government.
The current prices of Tokay Gecko according to its weights are: 300grams-Php 50 000; 350grams-Php 300 000; 400grams-Php 1.5 Million; 450grams-Php 2 Million; 500grams-Php 2.5 Million and 1kilo-Php 10 Million.
However, many people believe the reason that this reptile were being bought by the foreigners for a higher cost because they use its fluid to cover prohibited drugs which cannot be detected by any kind of detector.
