President Teddy Roosevelt’s son Quentin, had a pony called Aligonquin. Roosevelt himself had several horses, dogs, and even a snake called Emily Spinach, a Macaw named Eli Yale, a lion, hyena, zebra and a one-legged rooster. What a collection!

Thanks for the charming article. You might be interested in knowing that Abraham Lincoln loved animals. He not only kept a variety of animals while he was in the White House, but he was especially kind to them too. There are many stories about animals he saved–a pig, a nest of birds, and a dog. In those days, his kindness was unusual.
