These times are very hard for a lot of us.  It seems the smallest and the weakest are the strongest in these times. They bear the load that we cannot.  They seem to smile when we frown, they look to us with those longing eyes when we are in despair.  They have that questioning look in their eyes of “how can I make it better?”

Let us not forget them as we fight our way back from these dark times.  Their undying love and devotion deserves the best we can offer.  We took them on in the best of times and they are still our responsibility in the worst of times.  As a matter of fact if you will take a moment, and spend a little extra time with them at the pet park, in the yard, or just watching them at play, your day just might get a little brighter, your step a little lighter!

They don’t understand the changes from then to now.  So if for any reason you cannot provide for your pets during these trying times, try fostering them out, or maybe finding a family member willing to take them on until you can take them back.  They love you unconditionally, and you will be so glad to have them back in your life when the situation permits.  If these options aren’t for you then there is always Craig’s list, and pet rescue missions out there.  Please never, ever consider dumping, or abandoning your pet as an answer!

Keep in mind that no matter what your circumstances are, you took on the responsibility of caring for your pet, and they can’t fend for themselves in most cases!  So, please hold that resposibility dearly and treat them accordingly!!!  You will be repaid ten fold, in love, and admiration! (Depending on the pet of course)!  Remember, we all need saving, from time to time.  Save a pet, save their life.  Love a pet, save your live!

Good luck and Better times to all!  From my pack to yours!

Great article. I agree with you 100%. Love the pictures of your pack. Mary, where have you been? I have missed you. So, happy to see you back. I finally wrote that story about the paranormal and you were not there to read it. Hope all is well.

    Happy to see you, Pam

This article reminds me of my beagle, Tracker. I had to give him away when we moved, but at least he’s with an owner that takes good care of him. Thanks for sharing this touching article.

Mary, love to find a voice out there that could be my own. My own economic bad times started before all of the recent mess, but my “family” (Rune the PitBull, Missy Blanch the English Mastiff, Boris the pathetic Chihuahua/MinPin mix, the cats: Jeeves and Big Giant Kitty (Big Giant Kitty is a rescue that would NOT be renamed, he was supposed to have a much cooler name since he’s such a cool cat) and then my 28 year old Amazon parrot Tutti Fruity) have actually been a God send in these crazy time. I made a promise when I adopted them that is just as binding to me as adopting a human child would be. Making sure I can take care of them has kept me focused and they always keep things in perspective. When I’m having a pity party with myself, Rune starts limping until I stop! Thanks for putting your voice out there – there are too many people that look at animals as accessories or something to bribe their kids with until the puppy cute wears off, and unfortunately Texas is a place that still has enough wild space for amazing animals to be dumped by the side of the road or worse – breaks my heart that I can’t save them all.
