This is a true story. Years ago I worked at an animal shelter, an SPCA, we housed lost and found pets as well as owner surrendered ones. I only once was every really scared by a dog. It was not a Rottweiler, not a Chow or a Pit. The dog that gave me my most scary dog encounter was a Black Lab.
We humans have kept cats as pets for thousands of years. At times we’ve also persecuted them quite mercilessly, often due to such superstitious beliefs as "a cat can suck the breath out of a baby" and "eating a cat’s brain will make you invisible".
Larger black pets are the ones you see most often in the shelter. Quite a few people seem to dislike them. But why are they left, unadopted, when they are just as smart, beautiful, furry and lovable as their more colorful counterparts?
